Well, I’m back from the Bahamas and what normally is one of my favorite weeks of the year but this year, the PCA was lackluster. The weather was subpar and everything was super expensive. Without the great weather, I’d rather just stay in the US and go to some resort for a week. It would surely be less expensive. After having been to Aruba and Bahamas, Aruba is the king of the exotic island poker destinations. Congrats Aruba! After the PCA I chilled in Fort Lauderdale for 3 days, saw some camp friends, spent time with my parents, and just enjoyed not spending money.
I took Virgin America on the way back to LA. They just started flying to Fort Lauderdale from LA a few months ago, which is extremely convenient for me. Virgin America makes it so easy to fly. I’d fly anywhere as long as Virgin America was my airline. Each seat has its own video touch screen with movies, television shows, and satellite television. Also, each seat has wireless internet capabilities, as well as a power outlet so you can charge your laptop battery midflight. It’s about as luxurious as it gets for coach class. Made my 6-hour flight seem like an hour.
The next day Katie organized a barbeque at our place. Ended up being about 20 people and started at 2PM and went until 12AM. Katie’s boyfriend’s band, VAMPIRES EVERYWHERE! came so I got to meet them. That was cool, plus it was great to see all of my LA friends who I hadn’t seen in a good month. It was an enjoyable yet almost disastrous day. First, we lost Katie’s brother’s dog, Vedder, when he decided to start roaming the Hollywood Hills all alone. It was pretty frantic for a little but we eventually found him on a main road with cars zooming past. It was really fortunate.
After that we cooked up some hamburgers and Zack, one of the band members, was the only one who really knew how to grill some burgers. After he hooked us up with some tasty burgers he decided to cook some more. This time around, he started grilling hardcore. The flame got bigger and bigger although it seemed like a controlled fire. Then at some point, the flame doubled in size and gave us all a scare. The flame started coming out of the bbq even while it was closed. It really got scary for a minute but luckily Zach stayed calm and shut off the propane before the fire got too intense. I know one of my friends took a video of the entire situation so while it wasn’t anything I would want to relive, it would be cool to see it on the playback. Once things calmed down, we played some beer pong, did some keg stands, and went into the Jacuzzi. It was an overall great time and a fun way to welcome myself back to the state of California.
This week I’ve been playing a ton of online poker and it feels good to be back on the ultra grind. 2009 I played a ton in the first three months but after a very successful three months, I slacked off the rest of the year so now it’s time to focus again. This week and the next you can find me grinding the UBOCs. Then I’m off to Tampa for a Deepstacks.com preview for their first live seminar two weeks later. Good luck to everyone in the UBOC this week!
Peace.
